Maiduguri, the City of my birth.
A serene abode,
More serene than I ever knew.
Maiduguri, once a nest
For troubled birds,
In neighbouring hoods.
But today, a harbour for Evil Forces.
Maiduguri, even with your many flies,
Many flew to your tent.
Your Dogo Yaro trees were shade
But you have chosen bloodshed.
How I looked up to you, Maiduguri,
Like they did Canterbury.
But you have cast me away for good,
Leaving me to brood.
